On Thursday, April 10th The Best Beginning (TBB) and The Boston Business Journal came together for a panel on Online Personal Branding and Networking for professionals. Over 55 professionals were in attendance from across various industries in Boston. The event took place at the MCLE in Boston.

It was truly an honor to speak to such a distinguished group of professionals who were eager to ask questions and share their own social media and networking experiences.

TBB experts encouraged everyone to begin to polish their online personal brand and strengthen their networking techniques.

What is a personal brand? Your personal brand is defined not by what you tell people it is, but by how you conduct yourself and what others tell each other about you. The easiest way to think about what your personal brand is by imagining what people might say when you’re gone. What legacy are you leaving behind? What will your friends and colleagues say about you? That is your personal brand. Smart personal branding can help you communicate your unique value proposition and enable you to become a thought leader both within and outside your company. We identify with brands every day but rarely do we think of ourselves as a brand and that has to change!

Questions to think about when defining your personal brand:

  • What makes you unique?
  • What is your individual identity?
  • What value do you add?

Your brand is your unique promise of value;

  • Be Authentic
  • Be Sincere
  • Be Accountable
  • Give Generously

Your personal brand can benefit from social media if you position yourself properly; using social media correctly will help you communicate your “unique promise of value” to decision makers and focus on the immediate value and benefit you can offer a prospective employer or business partner.
