Have you ever had the urge to do something to change the world?

These thoughts cross my mind almost daily. But sometimes when we hear about so many global issues on the news, it can be difficult to believe that just one person can really make a difference.

Making the world a better place often means bettering it for a few people at a time. We all have the power to make a difference whether that means doing something for your family or for your community.

I try to focus on small ideas that can have a big impact at work, in my board/non-profit work and especially when it has to do with the lives of my family and friends.

Health Equity, how can we achieve it?

At work I spend a lot of time speaking with leaders of medical societies and healthcare organizations around the world. Every conversation is an opportunity to get to know the world a bit better, to understand different cultures and to see what issues clinicians are facing in different countries.

One common theme that comes up in almost every conversation is healthy equity. What can we do to ensure that the best care is available everywhere? How can we ensure that clinicians make decisions based on the best evidence?

These questions are always on my mind and I think we can solve this is by working together. Achieving health equity, eliminating disparities, and improving the health of all groups is not going to happen over night but it can happen if we make a priority to change.

I think of my family and the families around the world who must deal with the consequences of keeping the status quo.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on health equity and what we can do to achieve it?

Interview with Mass Insight Education & Research (Mi)

Proud to speak with John Schneider, Managing Director of External Affairs at Mass Insight Education & Research (Mi) on fighting my way through HS and college and how I ended up on the Board of Directors of Mi.

I hope that my story serves as an inspiration for students who feel like the US education system has failed them in one way or another. If you’re struggling in HS or in college, please don’t give up! Look for mentors in your community and dream BIG – anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard.

Mass Insight – Board of Directors

Honored to join the board of directors at Mass Insight Education & Research. I’m very excited to be part of an organization that is changing lives and closing achievement and opportunity gaps for underserved students. Thankful to Latinos for Education for matching me with Mass Insight!

I spent so many years of my life feeling like public schools failed me and thinking that I would never finish HS or even attend college. I did not believe in myself because I was never a straight A student. How could I ever succeed in life with average grades and test scores?

My life changed when I began participating in mentorship orgs. and volunteering in the community at the age of 15. Although I felt like a failure at school I started to believe in myself just through the simple act of leading community projects and helping other students.

Life blessed me with a few mentors who also saw something in me that I was blind to see or understand at the time.

Today and everyday I am committed to helping students see and realize their true potential, if you have the opportunity to mentor someone – PLEASE do it.

I am proud to bring my ideas and lived experience to the board room at Mass Insight. I will fight for children of all colors so that they get the education they so desperately need and deserve.

Latinos for Education – Board Fellowship

Very excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve our community.

I was lucky to be one of the 10 candidates who were selected to join the The Latino Board Fellowship, an innovative initiative that helps diversify the educational leadership network in the city.

The Latino Board Fellowship identifies, supports and places Latinos working within and outside the education sector in New England and Greater Houston onto governing boards of schools and education nonprofit organizations. As a board member, you have an important role to play in addressing educational inequity and influencing better educational outcomes for all children.

ALPFA Boston: LEVERAGING YOUR BRAND

ALPFA Boston partnered up with Ernst and Young LLP to host a discussion on personal branding and networking! It was an honor to be invited to speak to young professionals on the topic of personal branding. Creating your brand is so important! Your personal brand is what differentiates you from others.

Ask yourself a few questions:

What makes you unique?

How do you stand out from your peers?

If you have the ability to mentor or give back, please do so. It is such a rewarding experience that not only impacts your life but more importantly can change someone’s life.

Creative Mornings Boston – Community Panel

Speaking to a room full of new faces can be scary but every time I do it – I always walk away feeling hopeful, inspired, and motivated. The topic we spoke about was community and in light of everything going on in the world I urge you to be kind and help others in need in your community and beyond!

My love for community organizations is real! I know that when we come together we are stronger, we are united, the world is better. If everyone could think for one second about a friend, colleague, or stranger and give that person advice on how to achieve a goal or solve a problem, the world would be a better place.

Towards the end I asked the crowd to connect their Passion with their Purpose. Today and every day I am a firm believer that the 2 P’s will guide you to greatness in your career and life. I enjoy meeting people who are passionate and resilient regardless of where they are in their career. It is that passion that keeps them from giving up and pushes them towards accomplishing their goals.

I am proud to work Wolters Kluwer Health, a company with purpose, because your happiness in life is the direct result of what you spend your time doing. It is so important to find the meaning behind the work you do!

Lastly, there are so many ways to give back to your community, the challenge is taking that first step and going outside of your comfort zone. NEACOL.org is having their 4th Annual Gala on Oct. 20th this is one way to get involved and give back to Colombian children in need! For more information and for tickets visit:
